EXPLAIN how Mussolini came to power in Italy.

**TIP** Elaborate on what kind of personality Mussolini displayed; the effects of the Great Depression, and how Fascism came to power. Do not forget to mention the event that put Mussolini in power!

Mussolini had a confident cult of personality, he wasn't afraid to take charge and get what he wants. He didn't really care what people thought either. Fascists are obedient to their leaders and stress a lot of nationalism. So, Mussolini led 30,000 fascists to Rome, Italy and demanded to be the king. They had no other choice but to make him king because of the great depression. They had an unstable government and it really hurt the economy. Everyone was suffering, so it was Mussolini's perfect shot to try and take over.

After serving in the first World War, he had dreamed of military glory in a second World War. When he returned to his country of Italy after the war, he found his country in political and economic chaos. This made him form extremist political parties. It was obvious that he wanted to run things and he believed he knew how. He took his party into parliament, but didn't do well in the first election he was in. Although he did hold 35 seats in the 1921 election, this wasn't enough for him. He got his Blackshirts, his fascist group, to go around Italy. They caused turmoil, while Benito said that the fighting must end, while all along supporting these fascist groups. Benito finally threatened to make his Blackshirts march through Rome. In a very unorganized march that was unopposed this turned into a parade. The King thought of this as a solution instead of a threat. Mussolini sent a message to the King asking about the status in Italy. The King then replied, His Majesty the King asks you to come immediately to Rome for he wishes to offer you the responsibility of forming a Ministry. This was the starting of Benito Mussolini's power in Italy. He had won, he was the Prime Minister.

Mr. Arbaugh, Alright....so where did you see some of this information? This is a good response, but if you are going to use other sources of information to answer, then you need to cite them properly. While I feel some of this information is from the web and not the book or powerpoint, it is a good response. Perhaps you could have spent a little more time discussing the effects the depression had on Italy that made Mussolini appealing to the masses. Great Job my man, KEEP UP THE HARD WORK!

Ms. Jacobs, this is a great start to what could be a quality response. Your claim is solid, you just need to fix the structure of your writing. You provide good information, but you need to EXPLAIN it, or ELABORATE on it. How does Mussolini promise to help Italy? What about the effects of the depression? Do not be afraid to continue expanding on your response. Good job though, keep it up.

How did the effects of the depression lead to Mussolini's march on Rome? How did Mussolini's personality help him win the masses. Just make sure to EXPLAIN your supports. Good Job, Keep it Up!

Benito Mussolini came to power in italy by leading 30,000 fascists to march on Rome. By marching those 30,000 people saw what kind of man he was; He could be a commander, someone strong the people could look to. Fascism was a new political movement that basically promotes nationalism - pride in your country. Mussolini displayed a very confident manner, he was strong, he could be perceived as a man who would take control, a man who WANTED to help his country.Mussolini was able to come to power because the country was just recovering from the Great Depression, along with the rest of the world. Mussolini's early life was one fairly normal... His parents were a blacksmith and a school teacher, he grew up the oldest of 5 kids, his parents were strong socialists and were "ruled" by the catholic church.

Ms. Kelly, This is a phenomenal response. Great job here! I will say this, the last sentence about his family, is not necessary for this response that you have. You effectively answered the prompt without it. Unless you were going to support that sentence on how it fits in with Mussolini's rise to power, it did not need to be added. However, GREAT response! keep it up!

Mussolini, a very stubborn and hostile man, But was also very energetic and confident when he would give a speech. these factors of his personality helped him gain his followers. people were more willing to follow Mussolini because he promised change. He also promised Italy that he would rescue it from social unrest. after he had gained his followers he had led a march to Rome to take power from the king.

Mussolini was a energetic and confident man who rose to power in 1902 . He was a newspaper editor, and politician. He led 30,00 followers to march on Rome. He then promised Italy that he would rescue its self from social unrest. He rose to power in Italy in 1902 and promised the citizens that he would save Italy from the debt it was in from the war.

Mussolini came to power by Helping Italy out of the great depression and Social Unrest. He helped by reviving the economy and rebuilding the armed forces. His personality was very energetic, because he had so much energy when talking to the people of Italy they wanted to pay more attention to him, Unlike other politicians of the time. Mussolini was given power because he threatened that he would use violence toward the king if he didn't hand over power. He wanted Italy to become a Nationalist country. He for saw there would be a revolution in Italy and wanted to isolate socialism. This worked because he gained power easily. He wanted a fascism state, which is a government that there is nothing but the state and it used violence to gain power. Italy did not benefit from fascism because the state functioned very poorly.

Ms. Hood, Okay, this is a great claim at the beginning. However, some of the rest of the response is choppy. Make sure that your response flows in accordance with your claim. Try to stay away from using the word "He" all the time at the beginning of the sentence and instead substitute the name of the person with whom you are speaking about. Your very last sentence is also not needed for your response. You answer the prompt clearly, and unless you are going to continue elaborating on that point, it is not necessary to add because it leaves your response incomplete and not concluding your claim. Does that make sense? Aside from the flow of your response being a little choppy, this is a great response overall! Keep up the great work!

Mussolini came to power in Italy because of his cult personality. Mussolini had a personality that stuck out and captured the attention of the people. Mussolini was very confident and loud, which made capturing attention of the people and gaining power easy. During a time of social unrest after the Great Depression that left unemployment, business failures, and the loss of land, Mussolini promised to fix the economy and rebuild armed forces, which helped sway the support of the people. Mussolini also told the king that if he didn't put Mussolini in charge, he would create a widespread of violence. This threat of violence lead to the power of Facism. Mussolini wanted the country to be a nationalistic government that stressed loyalty and obedience to its leader. Although a new form of government was formed, Italy did not benefit from it because the state functioned poorly.

Mussolini came to power in Italy because of his cult of personality. Mussolini was loud, controlling, and very confident. His personality made it very easy for him to take power of the people. Mussolini was given his power because he threatened the King with violence if he did not put him in charge. After the Great Depression, rising inflation, unemployment, failure to win territorial gains, and a helpless democratic government led to Social Unrest. Mussolini promised to rescue Italy by reviving its economy and rebuilding its armed forces, which was much needed. Mussolini turned Italy into a Facist State, because he wanted it to be a Nationalistic country. Italy did not benefit from being facist, though, because the state functioned poorly.

Mussolini came to power in Italy because he was a very proud and also had a quick temper. Mussolini was raised into socialist family but his views changed once he grew up and Italy wanted to join the world war. By the state joining the war he realized he could come to power because he would be put on the sides of the war vets and then he would have even more followers by his side. The Great Depression also helped him come to power because he was the man with the most power seen in the peoples eyes an he talked about fixing it.

Mr. Heffernan, You display knowledge in Mussolini and his rise to power in Italy, however you need to work a little more on making sure you are supporting your claim and making it tie into your claim. You make a claim that, "Mussolini came to power in Italy because he was a very proud and also had a quick temper," but I feel you needed to provide evidence of how his pride and quick temper was beneficial for him to gain power. Does that make sense? That is a great claim, and there is plenty you could provide that would support it, but you just need to make sure that you do. You are more than capable of doing much better. You have the ability to construct a much better response. You are 100% right about Mussolini's personality and demeanor; however, you need to elaborate and EXPLAIN. From this point, all you need to do is focus on explain how Mussolini's stern and broad personality brought him to power. How did the effects of the depression impact his rise to power? Mussolini came to power in Italy because of his exciting, confident, and strong personality. Italy was in the Great Depression and Mussolini's confidence and excitement when he spoke made the people of Italy believe that Mussolini could help them get out of the depression. He also ruled with fascism, which is a government where there is nothing but the state. Mussolini used violence and manipulation to make the people believe what he believed and therefore gain all power. Ms. Nagy, I know you were struggling a little but with this prompt this week; however, I know you are much more capable of responding more effectively. Your claim is a little vague and unclear. From the beginning, the reader may struggle with trying to understand what exactly you are claiming. Try sticking to one one of those points. For example; Mussolini's cult of personality; use that as your claim. Then support it by explaining how his personality gained him power (i.e., social unrest from depression, march on Rome). Spend a little more time making sure you support your claim and then go back and double check to make sure before you submit. Good job, but KEEP WORKING HARD EVERYDAY!
